Voice of Reason

Henry Rollins shouts his truth from the Revolution stage.

Since the early Eighties, Henry Rollins has been on a mission. The former Black Flag frontman, now 47 years old, has written countless books of poetry and nonfiction, has appeared in blockbuster movies, hosts his own television and radio talk shows, and has made a number of USO tours in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

“Since I was last in Florida,” he tells New Times over the phone this past September 11, “I’ve done a substantial amount of traveling: Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa.... I’ll be talking about all of that.” His current spoken-word performances (dubbed The Recountdown Tour) also touch on the upcoming elections. “In the past two elections, there have been disputes in ticket count. Some people will always be dubious about the results of an election in America,” he declares. Asked if he will be pushing a specific candidate, he says, “No. It’s never up to me to tell you who to vote for; that would be outrageous. I’m going to vote, and I hope any American that can vote will vote. Who you vote for is none of my damn business. That you vote is my great concern. This is your country; let your voice be heard.” See Henry Rollins do exactly that at 7 p.m. at Revolution, 200 E. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
