There’s no getting around it: Lavell Crawford is a big man — a very, very big man. But when it comes to telling jokes, he’s light on his feet. Extra pounds don’t hinder his comedy — just the opposite. Crawford’s act directly addresses his weight issues ... to varying degrees of raunchiness. On the comedy reality-TV show Last Comic Standing, in which placed second (but should have won), he joked about being an overweight Cub Scout from the hood. During his appearance on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, he dishes dirt about bondage-related surprises and receiving oral sex. Punch line: Fat meat is greasy. To which we say, “Lavell, you so nasty!” The way he tells it, fat can be sexy as well as funny.

Crawford’s comedic skills are sharp enough to crack up both PG and NC-17 audiences alike, but what will he bring to the stage at the Miami Improv? He’ll certainly rock it this Thursday through Sunday, and with two shows per night — the first at 8:30 p.m. and the second at 10:45 — he’ll no doubt show audiences both sides of himself, from family-friendly to “Holy shit, I can’t believe he just said that.” Catch ya at the late show!
