Bill Parcells's Pavlovian reflex whenever one of his former players suddenly becomes available kicked up a few notches two weeks ago when the Jets released quarterback Chad Pennington. Parcells picked Pennington 18th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft (181 spots before Tom Brady!), back when the Tuna was running things in New York. So when Brett Favre was traded to the Jets from Green Bay, Pennington was given the boot. And so the guy we used to boo and hate lustily is now one of us.

Parcells has been saying all along he will “flip over every rock” to fill the myriad needs of the Miami Dolphins. As soon as Pennington was signed, he immediately became the best quarterback on the squad. He brings leadership, experience, and, well, leadership and experience. And that’ll have to do until rookie Chad Henne is ready to take over the reins. Thus the Chad Pennington as a Miami Dolphin era begins when the Fins take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Dolphin Stadium. Yes, it’s a tad unsettling. But that’s how we roll. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $41 right on up to $700 for the baller seats.
