Kung Fu in the Afternoon

And a lion dance to go, at the Miami Children’s Museum.

A museum built for sticky-fingered kids hopped-up on Tootsie Rolls and BlowPops might not be high on your list of places to visit anytime soon, but the Miami Children’s Museum is anything but your average kiddy playground. With exhibits ranging from a semi-psychedelic “Castle of Dreams” to a faux TV studio created for the purpose of doing your best Christiane Amanpour (or Kermit the Frog) impression, this Watson Island gem provides all kinds of enjoyment for even the most hard-core of nonbreeders. Mature children and childlike adults should head over Saturday afternoon for a special treat from the good people at Master Rubio’s Kung Fu Connection.

The prestigious 20-plus-year-old North Miami-based martial arts school will be dropping in to perform a special Chinese lion dance and a martial arts demonstration. The show is free with your $12 admission and begins at 3:15 p.m. Visit www.miamichildrensmuseum.org or www.kungfuconnection.com, or call the museum at 305-373-KIDS.
