Could there be a better time to attend a monster truck show? With rising gas prices, a mounting recession, and environmental paranoia, it might be our only escape from reality. It’s not the most sophisticated sporting event, but you’d be hard-pressed to find anything more kick-ass. There is something extremely gratifying about watching gigantic cars jump over piles of flaming rubble while AC/DC’s “TNT” blares loudly to explosions and headbanging mullets.

It might seem wasteful and irresponsible, but the roars of those engines, the screams of the crowd, and the great taste of a tallboy will make you forget all the world’s frivolous problems. Dust off your favorite flannel shirt and come celebrate a night of a good ol’ American excess, when Monster Jam: Summer Heat barrels through the BankAtlantic Center this Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $20, $10 for the kids. Visit www.bankatlanticcenter.com for showtimes.
