Local graffiti rats Krave, Crome, Typoe, and Monz have earned their street cred by the on-the-cheap dint of pounding institutional authority. They’ve all rubbed their taint across the 305, giving ulcers to the code enforcers who are blind to the fact that art is for aerosols. We say, if you can’t beat them, join them. The street artists have crewed up for an exhibit rhapsodizing on social issues affecting the Big Orange. “Livin’ for the City,” opening at 6 p.m. at 1st and 21st Street Studios, combines urban grit and civic engagement in a show and silent auction featuring edgy four-by-four panels that paint a brighter future for the city.

“Urban life experiences are expressed and explored through these undervalued art forms as young, raw, informed voices speak out in ways that have, in some cases, been censored or outlawed,” says Jean Villamizar, the exhibit’s curator. “Break’n Bred” a b-boy dance-off produced by Brimstone127 and Supah Maario will follow the funky affair.
