Even while she was growing up before our eyes as Gwendolyn "Winnie" Cooper, doe-eyed love interest of Fred Savage’s character in the poignant coming-of-age sitcom The Wonder Years, behind the scenes, young Danica McKellar was no slacker. Instead of building a reputation as an up-and-coming party girl, she kept her eyes on a much bigger prize than fame: namely, education. After the final voiceover revealed the fates of Kevin and Winnie, McKellar moved on. Today she’s recognized as one of few child actors who went on to discover fame on their own terms. Y’see, McKellar is not only a babe, but also a total math whiz.

At UCLA, she graduated summa cum laude and co-authored a scientific paper that proved her own mathematical theorem. Her first book, Math Doesn't Suck, encouraged girls to stop planning their super sweet-16 parties and start preparing for their futures instead. Now McKellar has penned another brainy tome: Kiss My Math: Showing Pre-Algebra Who's Boss. At 7 p.m., she’ll wax witty and wise about negative numbers, variables, absolute values, and exponents to your math-phobic teenagers. A child actor turned role model — who’d have thunk it?
