Can You Canoe?
Published on July 31, 2008
Gas prices, oh, the gas prices. If it weren't for the oppressive heat and our towns well-deserved reputation for having the nation's meanest drivers, we'd be making a purchase at the bicycle shop right now. Instead we're thinking of buying a canoe. Miami-Dade has lots of canals. Sure, it might not be the most practical way to run errands, but we'll be way more prepared if gas prices and sea levels keep rising.
In the meantime, the Sense of Wonder Nature Center at A.D. Barnes Park offers a guided canoe eco-adventure for folks looking to brush up on their paddling skills. You'll be guided through the areas canals and history while experiencing a bit of nature in the heart of the city. Half- and full-day trips are available; tickets cost $30 for adults and $15 for children. To make your required reservations, call 305-365-3018.
