Arsht Loves the Kids

Don’t be fooled by the stick figures; these artists have talent.

Back in our day, we had to walk 30 miles to school with holes in our shell-toes and a cattle-driving dog nipping at our heels. But once we arrived at our destination, the amazing art, music, and science programs made us forget about the fact that our feet were now two huge bunions. Spoiled kids nowadays roll up to the elementary school in Range Rovers only to find they have to sit three to a desk, with not enough money in the budget for a piece of chalk. But in an effort to encourage art in public schools and give students a forum to express their creative side, county Commissioner Joe Martinez is bringing his annual “Creative Visions Student Exhibit” to the Arsht Center from June 5 through 12.

The collection of artworks made by District 11 elementary, middle, and high school students will be on display in the lobby of the Knight Concert Hall, and four lucky artistes will win summer art scholarships. To see creations from the hands of babes, the Arsht is the place to be.
