It’s Complicated

Singles mingle at the Simple Life third anniversary party.

There are some things in life you can count on. That ex of yours will always let you down; mom’s chicken soup will make you feel better when you’re under the weather. And you know Edison Farrow’s weekly bash, The Simple Life, at Buck 15 will always be filled with lovely, sweaty twenty- and thirtysomethings dressed in trendy T-shirts and sporting big smiles. Thursday The Simple Life celebrates its three-year anniversary, with DJ Daisy D spinning, as she has for so many Thursdays before.

Described as a “gay frat party,” The Simple Life is the anti-South Beach, with happy people dancing to cheesy pop and old-skool hip-hop, eschewing the techno poundings blaring on Washington Avenue. In this tiny room, the gay guys are literally hanging from the rafters as they search in vain for a little space to dance. It’s true: They actually jump up and grab the rafters. Or maybe they’re sneaking in some chinups to make their biceps pop. Doors open at 10 p.m., and there’s never a cover charge.
