Booyaka, Booyaka

Gun rights opponents always point out the violent quality of firearms, but do they ever stop to think that the Second Amendment is just as important in preserving creativity as the First? Firing an AK-47 at Italian marble in order to create relief sculptures is all the rage in Wynwood. Using rifles as table legs is the latest trend in European furniture. And what about all of those T-shirt designers whose work shouts, “Yeah, I've got a neon pistol screen-printed next to a rhinestone skull on my tee. I'm pretty tough”? Do you think they just copy/paste some clip art? No, they study each gun carefully beforehand to make sure they capture its essence. So if you head out to Victor Bean's Southern Classic Gun & Knife Show, don't be surprised if you see an artsy crowd. It's practically the new Art Basel.

The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Miami-Dade Fair/Expo Center.
Sat., May 24, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., May 25, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
