The Soccer Blues

The Miami FC Blues dropped another heartbreaker last week with a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Railhawks. The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 for the entire game (soccer is fantastic!), but in the 87th minute, Carolina’s Daniel Antoniuk scored the game winner. The Blues now sit in eighth place in the USL standings. They’ve yet to win a game at home and seem to settle for ties over wins on the road. But the FC has added some new players to help turn the tide.

Most notably, they signed Trinidad and Tobago national and former MLS player Avery John. This is a calculated gamble. The last time a pro South Florida sports team fielded a guy with Avery and John in his name, it didn’t quite meet expectations. The original John Avery was a first-round draft pick for the Miami Dolphins that turned out to be a complete bust. Let’s hope Avery John brings honor back to those names in Miami sports lore. Or, at the very least, that he scores a bunch of goals so the Blues can stem the tide of losses. Friday night they face the Vancouver Whitecaps at Tropical Park Stadium. Kickoff is at 5:30, and tickets start at $10.
