Shorty Got Low

Rha Goddess drops knowledge and wisdom at the Arsht Center.

You can hear the groans of “no culture” and “weak shows” whoosh through the coffee shops, lounges, and galleries around town. New York imports and locals alike say they crave performances that evoke thought, laughter, and stimulation. We try to point them to spots that would put their complaints to rest — to no avail. Maybe they’ll believe Time, Interview, and XXL magazines instead, and head to the Arsht Center to see performance artist Rha Goddess. This spoken-word siren will surely shake up our little town with her one-woman show, Low: Meditations Trilogy Part 1.

She’ll use evocative words, explosive energy, live-feed video and film projections, and hip-hop beats to bring us the story of Lowquesha, a creative girl on the verge of insanity. Those critics say you’ll laugh, cry, and gasp. We second those emotions. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and are available by calling 305-949-6722 or visiting www.arshtcenter.org or www.miamilightproject.com.
