Forgetting the Gutter

Keep your head to the sky at the planetarium.

Oscar Wilde once said, “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” In keeping with those words, the Miami Science Museum is giving you a chance to forget you are wading amid dead rats and discarded bags of Fritos. On the first Friday of every month, dubbed Fabulous First Friday, guests are invited to a free star show at the planetarium followed by a peek through a powerful telescope in the observatory.

Who cares about that telltale crunch beneath one’s sneakers when the rings of Saturn are dancing above? Think of Jack Horkheimer, of Star Gazer fame, who gesticulates wildly in front of celestial bodies right here at the Miami Planetarium. We don’t know where this man believes he is, but it is definitely not the gutter. Keep your feet on the ground while reaching for the stars every first Friday. The star show in the planetarium begins at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by free telescopic views at the Weintraub Observatory from 8 to 10.
First Friday of every month, 7:30 p.m., 2008
