Hungry, Hungry Hip-Hop

Beats, rhymes, and life at Joseph Caleb.

The superman dances and the Teddy Riley-esque choruses just aren’t feeding your hip-hop spirit like the joints from yesteryear. Before you keel over from musical malnourishment, chew on this: Today is the second day of the Miami Hip-Hop Arts Festival, at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium four-day fiesta features something for every b-boy and girl.

If your pockets are on “E” but you still want to support the cause, you can check out tonight’s film screening and discussion of Byron Hurt’s riveting documentary Beyond Beats & Rhymes. Admission is free, and showtime is 5 p.m. If spoken word is your thing, Friday at 8 p.m., Mocha Soul will present a tribute to Poetry Month. That’s gonna run you $10 admission. End your week big with Image magazine’s Hair Competition and Fashion Show on Saturday. Tickets cost $26 in advance, $31 at the door. Showtime is 7 p.m. Visit www.miamiartsandculture.org, or call 305-636-2350. Hip-hop lives!
Wed., April 16; April 17-19, 2008
