Soak Up the Sun
Theres enough outdoorsy fun for everyone today!
By Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik
Published: April 10, 2008The sun is up, the sky is blue, and whats that? A breeze is wafting your way? Forget summer springtime in Miami is when the living is easy. Get out and soak up the rays before they become scorching, and breathe in the fresh air before it becomes so muggy you cant stand to be outside. Todays an awesome time to drag the kids off the couch and into the great outdoors. And, as luck would have it, there are three events at waters edge that celebrate the Magic Citys beauty.
Fans of wakeboarding are amped for Board Up Miami, the annual festival that has throngs of strapped-in daredevils hurtling and flipping through the air with the aid of speedboats. This years fiesta also features live music and food, all served up fresh at noon at the City of Miami Rowing Club (3601 Rickenbacker Cswy., Miami). Admission is $15; visit www.board-up.net. If youre more of a kiteboarding fan, good news: The Miami Kiteboarding Masters is taking place at Crandon Park (2 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne) and it promises to be the biggest such event in the state. No powerboats here just skilled athletes, power kites, and the wind, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Visit www.miamikiteboardingmasters.com. If you prefer calm waters and less spectator sport action, check out the 12th annual Miami Riverday at José Martí Park (351 SW Fourth St., Miami). Therell be plenty of live music, environmentally educational activities, and a petting zoo for the kids, and for you, a sense of satisfaction along the banks. Visit www.miamirivercommission.org.
