Though Anna Kournikova was seen roaming around the players’ area at Crandon Park during the Sony Ericsson Open, she wasn’t there to play tennis. Kournikova’s career on the WTA has expired, but her athletic career continues. Today she joins fellow hot athletes Dara Torres (four-time Olympic swimmer) and Katya Myers (Ironwoman/model) to form the “women’s dream team” at the first annual Nautica South Beach Triathlon. Participants will meet before dawn on South Beach to commence a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride, and four-mile run. Nautica already holds a similar event in Malibu. “We love the spirit and companionship among celebrities and competitors ... and we’re excited to bring it to Miami,” says Denise Seegal, CEO and president of VF Sportswear, Inc. Adding to the fun, Rocco DiSpirito will compete, fulfilling the triathlon celebrity chef quota. The race begins at 7:15 a.m. at Lummus Park, at Eight Street and Ocean Drive, in Miami Beach. The fee is $85 for individual participants, $125 for three-person relay teams. Sign up for open registration at www.southbeachtri.com.
