Meet the Mets, Beat the Mets

Though the Florida Marlins finished dead last in the division in 2007, they ended the season with a highly satisfying victory over the New York Mets. The Mets, having dropped 12 of their last 17 games, needed to win the final day to prevent the surging Philadelphia Phillies from clinching the division with a win and a Mets loss. With nothing to play for save pride, our Marlins euthanized New York’s season, putting the final touch on the worst choke job in baseball history. Though few attended the game in South Florida, the Marlins had 45,000 fans in a stadium 1,200 miles north, where the roar of the Philly crowd echoed all the way down I-95 as the Marlins forced the final out.

The Mets and their obnoxious fans return today seeking revenge. The young Marlins and overpaid Metropolitans take the field at 7:10 p.m. at Dolphin Stadium.
Wed., April 2, 7:10 p.m., 2008
