New York’s biannual fashion week is one of the definitive couture showcases in the world, shining a light on the trends that will rule the style universe for the next year. And although Miami is no Big Apple, it is home to enough snowbirds and imports to give our fair city a major sense of what’s chic; therefore, our very own Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach is pretty damn hot too.

This four-day extravaganza of clothing is not for the guy or girl who doesn’t give a crap about looking fly. Funkshion has garnered a reputation for showing only the most progressive and innovative among emerging and established designers. Tonight at 8, Jennifer Lopez’s high-end line, Sweetface, starts the week off with a bang at the main tent on the sand at 11th Street and Ocean Drive. Shows by Parish, Russell Simmons’s Argyle, and Marithé et François Girbaud pop off over the next few days, ending with über-chic Heatherette on Saturday. And don’t forget the parties, where the clothing code is most definitely dress to impress. Visit www.funkshion.com for a complete schedule of events.
