Support Overtown while you get down.

You vowed to be more philanthropic in 2008, and although giving a couple of dollars to the homeless guy with the “Why lie? I need a cold beer!” sign is a step in the right direction, we think you could definitely be doing more to contribute to society. Tonight join Miami power couple Alonzo and Tracy Mourning at the So Chic in White Heat ... It’s All Overtown fundraiser, an annual event benefiting the Overtown Youth Center.

Your $100 will go toward a night of partying alongside sports stars, local politicians, and celebrities. But most important, your money will benefit the center’s prevention program, where kids from one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods participate in year-round educational, cultural, and recreational activities. The dress code is white chic, and from 7:30 to 11, you can meet the kids you’ll be helping while grooving to tunes spun by DJ Irie. The center is located at 450 NW 14th St., Miami, and an afterparty will take place at downtown hotspot Karu & Y. Visit www.overtownyouth.org for more information and to RSVP.
