Brazz Dance Theater’s latest program, Pé de Samba (A Foot for Samba), presents the famous Brazilian dance in a more traditional way than the oft-portrayed sequins and feathers Carnival version. Agusto Soledade brought the company to Miami in 2004. Since then, he has garnered several awards and grants for his troupe, which melds samba and other Afro-Brazilian fusion styles with modern dance. Their latest program combines all of these elements and portrays the traditional style of flat-footed samba from Bahia, Brazil.

“Attenders can expect a full evening of high-energy dance work that is often playful, sometimes serious, and always original. They can expect to come away with a taste of Brazilian culture and -- we hope -- a sense of the relevance of the issues we raise in the larger contemporary society,” says Anne Morris, a dancer with the company. You can catch A Foot for Samba this weekend at FIU’s Wertheim Performing Arts Center. Tonight’s show begins at 8:30, and tickets cost $15.
