To distinguish herself from Wynwood competitors, art dealer Cristina Ricci is popping the cork on her new gallery “on the other side of the tracks.” Her pristine 1,900-square-foot space, nestled behind the Bacardi Building on Biscayne Boulevard, will specialize in contemporary photography and something else most Wynwood joints can’t boast: “We even have our own private parking lot,” the tyro gushes. “I found the space after Basel and felt now was the right time for us,” adds Ricci, who says she has been collaborating on projects with Milan’s Galleria Sozani since 2001. “This is my first space, and it is just perfect for me.”

Tonight at 7, she hopes to create some buzz for the fancifully named Untitled 2144 with a group show featuring high-end photography by international talent including Domiziana Giordano, Alejandro Garmendia, Pierre Sernet, Emanuela Gardner, and Valdir Cruz, each of whom she plans to give solo exhibits in the months to come. Brazil’s Cruz in particular is well known for his “Faces of the Rainforest” series, in which he created arresting portraits of the Amazon jungle’s Yanomami tribe.
