Off the Beaten Path

The green-minded individuals behind Emerge Miamis Critical Mass have developed several well-worn paths in their regular bike treks across the city. Most of those paths have led to Coconut Grove, Brickell, and other tree-lined, wide-avenued, picturesque locales. Today the Critical Massers will explore one of Miamis most historic districts. Theyre riding through Overtown.
Why Overtown? Well, its Black History Month, and thats part of the notion. And we always want to do something different.... This is a way to turn people on to the Lyric Theater, the Dorsey House, and Mount Zion Baptist Church. Its all about expanding our horizons and showing what Miami life is really like, explains Flash, Wallflower Gallery funk-finder and regular participant in the Mass. Ready to ride? Bring your bike and meet the group at 10 a.m. at the Government Center Metrorail station, 111 NW First St., Miami. The cruise through downtown Miamis core will end up at Legion Park, where the weekly Green Market will be taking place.
