Time for Outdoor Fun

Go south, pick on a mango for a change.

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a 39-acre park just south of Miami where you can find more than 500 types of fruits, herbs, spices, vegetables, and nuts from around the world. That’s right, the Redland Fruit & Spice Park is a veritable produce section -- huge, amazing, and in your back yard. And even more homey is the fact that you’re free to sample any fruit that happens to fall from its tree or bush (but forbidden to pick anything from the branches).

Today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can try your hand at arts and crafts, buy an armload of plants, indulge in the delicious food, or just sit back and enjoy live music. And the kiddies who may not be into fruits, spices, and herbs will be kept busy by the petting zoo, wandering magicians, and puppet show. Admission to the park is six bucks; children under age 12 get in free.
Sun., Jan. 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
