The James L. Knight Center is classy, but old hat. The Carnival Centers cool and all, but whatevs. Youve already checked out the revamped Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason, jaded culture vulture that you are. Now youre looking for the next new big thing to hit town, so you can be the first to tell your friends. Get ready to boast about the wonders of Spiegelworld, a magnificent, lavish new venue for live performances thatll only be here from December 20 through February 17. This means if you blink the slow, dusty blink of a snowbird, you just might miss it. Then whatll you have to brag about?
Spiegelworld has come to Miami in a whirlwind of hubbub, constructing an opulent, old-world style theater out of three tons of teak, cut-glass panels, and enough bolts of plush velvet to paint an army of Elvises on. Et voila Collins Park has been transformed into the hottest new theater in the city, complete with a cast of incredible aerialists, skaters, jugglers, and comics a veritable cirque du talent. Therell be an amazing variety of performances happening within those imported wood walls, starting tonight with the Jewish Princesses of Comedy. Cory Kahaneys production swept New York City like wildfire, and now shes here alongside Jessica Kirson, Adrienne Tolsch, and Sherry Davey, to kvetch about men, sex, that damn PMS, and whatever the hell else comes to mind. Catch this brash, bawdy show tonight at 6. Tickets cost $30. Call 954-462-0222, or visit www.browardcenter.org to select your seat online. Visit www.spiegelworld.com for a complete schedule of local events.
