More Nutcrackers than you’ll know what to do with.
Published on December 13, 2007
December has descended, and dancers all know what that means time to bust out the rouge and toe shoes for the inevitable performance of The Nutcracker. The holiday favorite is a time-honored ballet tradition, and for many youngsters, its an important first memory that often leads straight to ballet class (if they arent already enrolled, that is). But heres the rub: Every dance company in town is going to be performing the same ballet. Where do you go? No need to get your sugar plums in a twist, dance fans. There are two Nutcracker shows to choose from tonight.
The biggest performance will certainly be the Miami City Ballets at the Carnival Center. Replete with a cast of more than 100, magnificent sets and costumes, and special effects, the spectacle is something Tchaikovsky himself would be overjoyed to see. Kids from Miami City Ballet School will join the grownups onstage, so your little ones will have something to look forward to. Tickets range from $19.75 to $63. Visit www.miamicityballet.org. For a version with a Latin twist, head to the Manuel Artime Theater (900 SW First St., Miami) for The Nutcracker featuring Las Voces Blancos USA. It begins at 7, and admission is $22 at the door.
