Lively Up Yourself

All things considered, 2007 has been a pretty sweet year for DJ Lance-O. After years of plugging away behind the turntables at practically every reggae venue in South Florida, the dreadlocked DJ made his dream a reality. Island Hoppers, his weekly TV show on the Sun Sports network, finds Mr. O waxing philosophical about the surf, music, and individual cultures of various beautiful Caribbean islands. So far this year, he’s been to Jamaica, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, and Nevis. “I just got back from Puerto Rico, and in four days we’ll be in the Dominican Republic,” he beams. Between all the traveling, he’s steadily promoting his record label, Kulcha Shok Muzik, and spinning at venues from Miami to Delray Beach. And between all of that, he’s finding the time to host a celebration to remember. At Lance-O’s Kulcha Surf birthday bash, the guests get all the gifts.

Tonight at Purdy Lounge, there will be live performances by Fourth Dimension, ArtOfficial, Junior Ena, and special guest Natty Remo. Lance-O alludes to “a special surprise guest,” and besides that, there’ll be new surf movies, special guest DJs, and loads of giveaways. “I’m not accepting any gifts, just giving them away. So we’re giving out surfboards, skateboards, sandals, clothes, stickers ... all kinds of good stuff,” he assures. Admission is free, so come on down and wish Miami’s most prominent reggae DJ many happy birthdays to come.
