Boy I tell ya! It's one thing to fire a coach that I feel has done a pretty good job. But to fire someone who's actually got the program steering in the right direction."Come On!" Besides, it's not like(Central)you have the best team in the state. I just hope that the next coach that decides to take that job has some kind of contract, and in that contract, it has a clause in it stating that he and his staff needs at least 3-5 years that way there would be both some good continuity and great stability or support.

Juice the problem is every coach gets a one year contract there is no such thing as a clause. Second the coaches in dade county get paid peanuts. It is getting worse to coach Dade county football.And no one cares. When RUDY CREW says were here for the kids, he is lying to the public!

They hired Coach Martin in AUGUST! He didn't have time to incorporate his offensive philosophy. He was handed leftover coaches from the previous team, and A WIDE RECIEVER COACH as an offensive coordinator.
Then, Central wins every game up till BTW. They were in a dogfight with BTW, and may have won if not for the lighting cancellation. Then, they lose to da West. Who didn't? That games on a Saturday. The following Thursday, they have to be ready to play a tough NMB squad. (Who scheduled that, an NMB alum?) It's tough to get prepared to play anyone on three days, let alone a good team when you're coming off an emotional loss. Central lost. These are not bad losses. Then the playoff loss is tough, but there aren't bad teams left once you get there.
So, after this season, which was a good start for a young team and a new staff, Martin want to establish his system. Martin wanted to improve his team. A more balanced offense would be a great fit for a team with a talented/young QB. He wanted to push the Central program in the right direction.
The principal decided it's not the head coaches program. The principal decided it's his program, and the head coach doesn't get to choose his offense, or his offensive coordinator.
Giving a highly successful alum the boot after barely one season, (and zero offseason), with no scandals involved?
Who would want this job? Martin fired? Was it his NFL credentials? The fact he's a Rocket thru and thru? The fact that he's the last Defensive Coordinator that managed to beat da West? This defies logic.

Once again, politics rears its ugly head. Martin resued a desperate program rather effectively, and is repaid in kind by receiving his walking papers. The principal or other influential school system higher ups have someone in mind that they want for the job. Thus Martin becmes the victim. Moreover, the kids become victims as well. Unfortunately, with the Dade County school system, the children are always the victims.

You are absolutely correct, this decision defies logic. But, when has logic ever played a role in Dade high schools?
What you don't understand is what went on behind the scenes. Martin met with his offensive staff. Told them he wanted a more balanced offense, and that he was going to interview for a new offensive coordinator. His current OC Snipes, the one who acted surprised in this article, (LIAR), went on a campaign to get Martin fired. He started calling the kids and their parents, telling them Martin was going to go to a run only offense. Snipes is a liar and a back-stabbing snake. He tried to get Martin fired, then acted like it's a suprise.
The principal heard from the kids parents, "We're going to take our kids out of your school". He was gutless. As a Central Alum, he should be ashamed of himself. If you let snakes and kids run your program, you'll get what you deserve.
All he needed to do was go to Martin, find out what was going on, then get out of the way. Let your coach run his program. If Martin's given a chance to talk to the kids and parents they wouldn't have left. (And if they do, who cares?)
Now, WHO ARE YOU GOING TO GET THAT'S HALF THE MAN, HALF THE COACH, HALF THE ROCKET THAT MARTIN IS?

i guess this type of decision proves that.
my grandson and nephew should have gone to central, but my daughter-in-law says she's an Assist Principle there and she had advise me not to let them attend that school.she also stated that the staff there don't care anything about the students.and that,"that principle was dump and do know what she is doing",she feels she can do a better job than that of the principle.

Stating the facts, you have made an excellent point. It is a shame that a inner city school like Central can't get good educators, where they are needed most.Yet when a real teacher wants to leave a school like Central it's usually because of frustration that most of the community, the students their families care more about football than education. I root for all majority black high school football teams in Miami-Dade except when they play aganist the team I coach(which I will not disclose) Even when a team "Steals" players from our neighborhood by recruiting little league games, I root for them. Its funny I spoke with a coach in Atlanta and he said thats crazy and someone would report it quick there. I told him Miami was built on greed and corpution, its the way of life here.

Central is a singing boat and anyone who is able to get out, should take the advantage and get out while those principals are there. Those principals don't care about anyone but themselves. They are taking money from the programs because they only order from one company and I know they are working some money in the back ends.
Truth is they should of never gotten rid of the staff that led them to the third round of the playoffs. That principal CLAY does not give any space to do your coaching job. He tries to be a coach and not focus on what he is suppose to do there and that is HELP the kids and staff. Well, thats what happens when both principals are having an AFFAIR with people from the staff they brought in.

Central Principal Jerry Clay is a liar and can not be trusted. He never wanted coach Martin in the first place. Coach Snipes was hired first, not Coach Martin. Coach Martin is correct, Clay did want someone with more Dade-County ties. What Coach Martin left out is how Clay tried to put Coach Martin and Snipes against each other. Clay wanted Coach Martin out and claimed Coach Martin fired Snipes without informing him. Coach Martin was changing the culture of Central, but some people(Clay) didn't like what he was doing. Martin was creating discipline and pride among the players, also with a winning attitude. This is not about winning, politics. We all know politicans are liars.

You have a coach that's and alumnist of the school, with years of pro football experience that these kids can draw from. The problem here is that, no one will step up. The principals have the connection with District and nothing will happen until their connection (the head of THE ZONE) is removed. The community and alumnis don't rise up to the occasion to force something to happen.
Everyone knows that the principals have made no change in that school. It's still an F and the loyal faculty it had is plummetting. Everyone in the there knows that as soon as those two principals entered that it just has been chaos. Administration vs. Faculty, the AD has just hurt the programs and teachers are not happy. That school is a sinking ship. The leadership in there has no experience. Attitude reflects leadership.

As a former teacher at Miami Central, I can tell you this is common practice for this school. This school has always run by the seat of its pants and will continue to do so until the district wakes up and places competent administration there. Most businesses have rules, ethics, a professional standard but this school operates by its own rules governed by self-centered and greedy administrators. I continue to feel sorry for the hard working staff who are threatened with their jobs so frequently and the innocent students who just want an education. Believe you me Mr. Martin, you will now be better off. That school represents the evil in Dade County Public Schools. The sick thing is, it will never get fixed because the powers to be are either related to someone higher up or doing them presently or have a secret on someone higher up or within. As a concerned alumni of The Central Rockets it really hurts my heart to see one of our very own derailed behind something as petty as this. This man (Manny Martin) an ex pro with an extreme amount of knowledge of the game was not allowed the opportunity to leave his mark on his alma mater. Instead he was ousted for a player and a power hungry medling AP. It takes a couple of years to make your mark. That offense averaged less than 20 pts per game. They call that a spread. It averaged 2 turnovers a game. The Defense only gave up 15.3 pts per game. Incomplete passes kill drives in case you don't know. Therefore it kills games and seasons you saw it...one and done in the playoffs. Central is Central. The West is the West. Trust the man and results will come. This might be up there with the Tyrone Willingham firing. They ought to be ashamed

It is unbelievable to me that the administration at Central only gave Coach Martin approximately 5 months to build a program. A strong program takes years to build. Coach Martin is a man who wanted to give back to his community. He is a coach who wants to instill morals and a strong character in his players, both on and off the field. To fire him after only a few months is a total representation of what is wrong with our communities. Young men need stability. He was good for those boys. Job uncertainty certainly causes a lot of stress for these coaches who spend numerous hours a week with their players, and are compensated minimally. Central is making a huge mistake.

When the Principal says they want someone with strong Miami ties. Coach Martin is from Miami, a Central alum, so what do they mean? He has Miami ties.
Unfortunately, you need to read between the lines to get his point. He wants someone who will RECRUIT the area. Coach Martin was going to go about winning the right way, and set a great example for those kids. That's not what the administration had in mind.

As a former Miami Central Football player, I can not beleive the decision making process of our current principals. Coach Martin is a good person and a great coach. He took a job just two weeks before the start of the season. The principals hired Billy Rolle, he left before the start of the season and transfered to Northwestern, leaving the Rockets high and dry. Now after this man did a great job in his first year, you fire him. What message do you send our community when we are an "F" school. Moral amoungst the teachers and students is very low.
Where are your priorities when the school is projected to make an "F" again.
Studetns will continue to transfer, paretnts will continue to complain, but nobody will listen since this is a perdominatley Black school in a low income are. We deserve better, we need better leaders. Coach Saunders was ran out of the school, he is now an Assistant Principal. our former athletic director, left and is now an assistant principal. We are left with a nasty athletic director and two silly principal.
Lets protest, call Dr. crew's office. We will not take this lying down. All Rockets rise up to this challange.

MANY have forgotten the purpose of a PUBLIC EDUCATION. Its not about sports, individual agendas, power plays, who know whom to get wherever, and so forth. Public schools resonisbilities is to educate individuals who want to learn, to better themselves, their love ones, their community, city, state and nation in becoming productive indivudials in society as an entrepreneur or employee with meaningful knowledge, ideas and skills in order to climb the ladder of success by whom one is employed.
The problems at MIAMI CENTRAL is not new, they have been around for many years but NO GIVES A DAMN. EXCELLENT TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS have left of been moved, and those that are still there trying to continue to make a differene are wearing very thin. Miami Central has always had excellent teachers and there are many still there, but for how long , only GOD knows.
Everyone in any system has duties to perform to the best of their abiliies. To the person that wrote about their daughter-in-law, she must be part of the problem if she did not go there to make a positive impact. NO ONE SHOULD REMAIN WHERE THEY ARE NOT HAPPY. IF THE SCHOOL IS NOT GOOD FOR HER CHILDREN, THEN WHY IS IT GOOD FOR HER TO WORK THERE WITH THAT ATTITUDE. She cannot have a positive effect on the students as well as the faculty.
PARENTS, your childs first learning takes place in the HOME. Your responisibilities is to make sure your child has the ability to listen, follow directions and comphend information given by working with them at home. Don't leave everything to the Teacher. Parents, where are you for parent days/nights, when your child has a competition other than football or basketball. Many student does not know the meaning of R E S P E C T, because they have not be shown or taught.
WE MUST ALL CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER. Schools, Teachers, Parents, Communities, WE ARE ALL STAKEHOLDERS in this game of EDUCATION.
ONE GETS WHAT THEY BRING,IF YOU BRING NOTHING YOU GET NOTHING. TEACHERS TEACH, STUDENTS HAVE TO WANT TO LEARN.
GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE HAVE REALLY LOST SIGHT OF THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION. OUR ANCESTORS DID THE GROUND WORK, WE HAVE BEEN BLINDED BY MATERALISTIC GREED AND SELFISHNESS.
Football is just a sport where people is paid too much. A Teacher has to educate that person and gets paid toooooooooooooo little.
IT IS STILL A REWARDING PROFESSION THAT ANYONE CANNOT PERFORM.

CALLING OUT EVERYONE WHO HAS READ OR POSTED ON THIS STORY. Take about five minutes of your time and call downtown in order to protest. The reason all of this happens is because our voices don't get heard because we are too lazy and weak to speak up as a community. Nothing will happen unless parents and community members start calling downtown. This will be a whole cycle all over again.
Don't be surprised if you see kids transferring into NW next year from different schools and including Jeff the QB from Central. But YOU can put a stop to this.

Take notes from the NW alumni, they get to hire and fire coaches all the time. They put on marches, challenge politicians, hell-they'd incite a riot if they had to. Central fans/alumni, stand up for coach Martin!!!! Don't just talk about it on a blog!! Don't let him get the short end of the stick over some made-up nonsense like one of our other beloved and successful coaches here in Miami(who was also from an extremely successful program last year).

First of all, go enroll yourself in a Reading/spelling/grammar 101 course. Your writing skills get worse by the minute. Though I am wasting my time responding to you, I will, since I'm on lunch break. What kind of teacher am I? One of the top techers in my school. I decided to mix humor and candidness with my response to what some jerk said in regards to the coaches from Northwestern. Are you for the West, or against us? I'm confused. Castro - oh,I mean, Cigar...who are you to tell me how I should get my point across? Unlike others, I am very frank and upfront about my feelings toward the situation occuring at Northwestern last year, pardon me. And I read blogs for sheer entertainment. Actually, some of this crap that's posted is actually informative in some aspects, though most of it is gossip. However, I never find YOUR posts to be informative...more like judgemental, arrogant and downright wrong to say the least! Anyway, I have to go and pick up my students so that we can read about the Holocaust. This is what good teachers do - they teach.
Oh yeah, And to further answer your question, teachers are PEOPLE first. So I have a potty mouth - sue me. I'm still one of the best at what I do.

First of all, Mr. Stating the facts, not all teachers at Miami Central Sr. High are incapable of teaching the students. As a graduate of Miami Central, I must say that there are a couple (I can only think of a handful) of teachers there that are concerned with the outcome of past students and want nothing more than to see them succeed in life. The fact that there are not enough teachers that really care about their students is sad but it's true in just about every school around the world. In my opinion, Ms.Atkins is totally not concerned with what goes on at Miami Central unless it will affect her job! She is rude and feels as though she can say and do whatever she pleases. Someone with authority needs to really call her out on that! It seems like many people know what goes on behind closed doors and Central but who's going to be the one to do something about it? As far as the incident with the coach, there had to be something else to it, but who knows........

Before I begin SPELL CHECK IS MY BEST FRIEND lol!As a Teacher at Miami Central is is so difficult to try to encourage those who are deemed unencourageable. There are many days that I am just beat! Whipped! I love those kids, but there are times when I am to tired to work with my own child. I have worked with criminal previously! I choose to teach because I wanted to be more effective, catch them and make a difference in their lives while they still have a chance. Central has it's faults! But when do parents take responsibility for their children's behavior. Manners do start at home!
Last week we received our interim assessment reports. In October we were in last place, and in November we came in second behind Edison. People we are trying very hard to push these children towards success! Yhall can say what you want about Robin Atkins, and to tell you the truth some of it maybe true, but she has been the only administrator coming into my room coaching me, coaching my kids, and providing that additional push that I need at times.
We need to move off of the F list! We need to clean up our acts. How can I move a child that doesn't want to learn? How can I teach a child that has 44 days absent from school? How can I get a student to respect me when they don't respect themselves? I can teach til I am blue in the face, but I can not go take the test for them!
Taking and passing FCAT is something that the indiviual student must do on their own! All I can do is provide the material to help them pass!Some of you who talk so bad about us, come teach for a day! That will be your last!

International waters? What?! Well, Mr.taxpayer, are you implying that I am some sort of loser because I got into teaching? You can't be saying THAT! Though I am self-proclaimed, my data (meaning numbers, percentages, test scores,etc.etc.) speak for themselves. Actually, my day wasn't upset at all by you, my husband and I actually crack up at the responses that my upsetting posts warrant...yours has been the best so far. I truly couldn't imagine what you could do for a living - really. And please do a re-read of my prior posts...I never questioned why others read these blogs, nor have I said that you shouldn't - wrong again, sir. I want to break this down to you....I have what is called a college degree, two actually. One is a B.A. in English lit., the other a Master's in Reading education. This means I can basically enter and be successful in any profession that I choose. I chose to be a teacher. I assure you, my home is very comfortable, I drive a luxury car. I have investments and own other property. And I'm only 30 years old. Before someone writes in wanting to know why I had to get into all of this, I want it to be known: It's people like YOU cigar who make it hard for teachers in this country. You constantly look down on the very people who educate your babies. Hell, your doctor, your momma, your little wife and I guess even YOU left your future in one of our hands. So instead of you bragging about not being a teacher, and I guess making a better career choice, please check yourself. In reality, there is no more noble job than what it is that I CHOSE TO DO - TEACH!

Never I ask what you own, so what, you own a luxury car, its nothing to that, hell my wife drives a bentley, I drive a hummer, and we own a limousine, it just another car, I own hundreds of acres of land, cattle, and horses, a 30ft boat and a beautiful home, also other investments. I did not earn it with grammar, I gained what I have by working smart, not working hard, and I do not sell drugs. And I am still just plain old me.
I am just a plain person that loves to wear jeans and a plain old shirt, until I have to congregate around all you educated people, that thinks you have something. I have also learn its more important to have happiness and peace, and to enjoy the simple things in life.
I enjoy helping kids at my MNW to assist them to achieve a college education, and I have done this for about 15-20 years, I love doing this,

If the employees, parent and students focus on the real issue of educating our community there would not be time for all the sex scandal gossip. To all of my people,
The caucasian race is enjoying every bit of this right now. Why are we taking time to embarass ourselves by advertising not only business that we can't prove, but also our own personal business. I am educator born and raised in Miami, now living in Atlanta. Many of us moved away because of things like this and many more are following. African-Americans of Dade County, wakeup, things are not going to get better by us playing the blame game. The facts are, we all need to play our role in educating these kids. Kids respect and will do whatever it takes for whoever places high expectations on them and shows them the correct way to do things. I'm here in Atlanta bragging on the superiority of the athletes from Dade County on a daily basis, can't do the same for academics; which should really be the focus. My mom raised 3 of us on her own and as of May 2008, all of her kids will have graduated from Florida A&M University. Our learning began and was fostered at HOME. Our accomplishments in school were a reflection of the demands she placed on us. We could not be involved in any extra-curricular activities unless we maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in "ALL" of our classes. Guess what? We did it because, 1. we were afraid of the consequences that momma would dish out and 2. we enjoyed being involved in school related activities.
How many of the parents and teachers on here complaining are active members of the PTA at Central? How many parents on here allow their kids to listen to music that is degrading? How many parents on here know where their kids are at, at all times? My momma always knew where we were at because she demanded we call her when we reached wherever we told her we were going. She didn't allow just any type of music to be played her home or in the car. She nade us work if we were not involved in extra-curricular activities so that we could learn repsonsiblity. We didn't want for anything, but she didn't just give us whatever we wanted either. SOME parents laugh and play with their kids about issues or occurences that foster negativity, then the send that child to school and ask them to act like a child and pay attention. Most educators probably feel as what we do is a distraction to what these kids normally do at home.
Simple fact is, academic excellence will not occur in the lives of these kids until we as adults get ourselves right first. Treat kids as kids and maybe they will act as such. Maybe they'll come to school and do what is asked of them and just maybe we can all move back to Miami one day to support and be proud of our city as a place that is welcomimg to African-Americans. The only way it will happen is, we educate our minds and focus on bringing positive things into our communities. Support the school in the same manner as you do on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights. For the unhappy teachers, I've never had an issue with any administrator that I worked under because, my first administrator (momma) taught me to be proactive and do what I'm suppose to do. Just do what you're suppose to and you'll find that your administrator will become a stranger to your class because they will have gained enough confidence in you to feel that you can handle yours.
Life is short. Enjoy it and stop bickering with one another. Be a part of the solution!

Who cares about what the caucasians in this town think? They need to wonder what WE think about THEM. That's the problem...we worry about what other races of people think about us! Our green money spends like theirs - don't worry. We bleed blood, they bleed blood as well. We desire the best for our children. We travel. We invest our time, money and hard work to make life more comfortable for ourselves and in the efforts to retire early. We employ ourselves... Why are we always,always,always worried about what those people think???? I agree that it is embarrassing to see folks writing about affairs in the workplace and who isn't doing their part to educate kids. It's disgusting. I am challenging YOUR wonderful superintendent to do a massive clean-up at all of the problem schools. Mr. Crew, earn your pay!! But first, start with the parents who only run out to schools to see if they can pursue a lawsuit! Then, work your way around to the principals who, like at my school, are aiming for a grade of "C" this school year, as opposed to an "A". Finally, throw out your racial quotas...get rid of these cancerous WHITE teachers (the same ones that Anthony is trying to impress)who lower standards for our children in the classroom. The same WHITE teachers are the first in line, looking for supplements. Treacherous. These type of people are the real problem. They can't seem to understand that the only difference between their children and ours is exposure - not intelligence. At times, though, exposure=intelligence.

First and foremost you all are quiet concern on what kind of work Cigar does. Well, being taught from a child, our parents always told us to put God before anything. (Which we do) secondly they taught us how to save and let our money work for us instead of us working for our money.
