Nights in White Spandex

White Party shimmies all weekend long.

Thanksgiving weekend means two things unique to Miami: First, Hispanic families serve their turkeys with arroz, and tres leches for dessert; and second, the gays skip the fat and carbs altogether so they can show off their abs at the various parties during White Party Week. The largest annual fundraiser for AIDS services provider CareResource officially began a few nights ago, but the first big events take place tonight.

The gays will head to White Dreams at Karu & Y with DJ Abel, while the lesbian locale is Cirque 8, at Nikki Beach (1 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach). Dressing in white is encouraged at both. Don't like your gays and lesbians served separately? Then wait until Saturday and head to the White Party itself at Vizcaya, where you can stroll among the gardens, hear Cyndi Lauper perform live, and perhaps find romance under the stars. Of course where there are gays, there are Speedos: lovers of the banana hammock must also attend the Heatwave Pool Party at the Surfcomber Hotel on Saturday, and on Sunday, head to the gay beach at 12th and Ocean for Muscle Beach, where you can shake it on a dance floor on the sand. But this is by no means an exhaustive list of everything happening; go to www.whiteparty.org for addresses, event times, and all the juicy details.
