Teenage Time-Out

Drop off the adolescents for a rockin’ night out

By Raina McLeod

Published on October 11, 2007

While some teenagers were spending their time constructing racy MySpace pages and playing Halo, Amber Kizer, Lisa Shanahan, and Jake Wizner were busy writing some pretty awesome books. Weaving tales about puppy love, insecurities, and, of course, coming of age, the three authors have written great American teen novels: One Butt Cheek at a Time; The Sweet, Terrible, Glorious Year I Truly, Completely Lost It; and Spanking Shakespeare, respectively. With their debut tomes in tow, Kizer, Shanahan, and Wizner are setting out on a five-city teen author tour across the nation, visiting our very own Books & Books.

The B&B crew is planning an awesome night of food, music, and prizes to give the teens something to rock out to. The Teen Bands Jam Night will feature live music from Miami Beach middle and high school students. You might think your teenyboppers are moody, brooding, and text-message-happy, but an evening with the next generation of literature just might inspire them to step out from underneath the requisite adolescent black cloud and follow their own dream. The teentastic night starts at 7:00.
