Golf tournaments are a dime a dozen in this town. Nine times out of 10 they take place in Doral, and thanks to the “celebrity” factor, the entry fee is damn near astronomical. If we wanted to watch OJ Simpson tool around for an afternoon in the sun -- well, not anytime soon, obviously -- we could head out to Kendall on a Saturday, thank you very much. Most of these events are an excuse for good ol’ boys, aspiring ol’ boys, and has-been athletes to get drunk during daylight hours. You don’t need to part with your hard-earned $200 for that. But if you sincerely love golf, drinking, and the camaraderie of the dudes you’d hoist a beer with at your favorite neighborhood watering hole, you better hurry up and register for today’s Sunset Tavern Golf Classic. This year’s tournament takes place on the beautiful Crandon Park Golf Course.

“It’s our sixth annual event, and we’ve been very lucky this year,” says Sunset Tavern and Deli Lane’s catering and special events coordinator, Patty Karpinski. You’ll be the lucky one if you score well enough to win one of the awesome prizes she’s rounded up. They include a 12-person party on a sweet yacht, tickets and gambling chips on the flashy new casino boat Aquasino, and all the beer you can guzzle. Well, that’s not so much a prize as the reward every golfer chooses to give himself. Admission is $95 and includes golf, drinks, a box lunch, and an after-tourney reception back at the tavern.
