Forget vengeful Batman and freakazoid Spider-Man -- the police officers and firefighters in New York City on September 11 and in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina proved it takes a special brand of superhero to protect the lives of strangers. Those brave folks didn’t need Silly String or phone-booth quick changes -- just a little old-fashioned commitment to public service. Beginning at 7:00, 12 pairs of boxers (all from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach county units) will face off for three rounds of fisticuffs, police officers versus firefighters. “There’s definitely a friendly, competitive rivalry,” says Miami Beach firefighter Charlton Price. “Some of us know each other from working alongside each other, and of course you would like your team to win for the bragging rights.” Tickets for the rumble start at $15 and are available at the Hard Rock box office and www.ticketmaster.com.
