While countless locals reserve Saturday morning for nursing Friday night’s partying wounds, the Publix Family Fitness Weekend offers happenings for early risers and active types. Registrants can take part in athletic events such as the ESM Spring Duathlon Series, a combination of running and cycling; and the Zephyr Sport Sprint Triathlon Series. The action isn’t limited to adults. Youngsters can participate in the Fresh from Florida Sprint Kids Races, a combination of running and cycling; as well as the Open Water Swim Series, a one-mile course that is open to everyone.

Check-in and free breakfast begins at 5:30 a.m., so make sure you get there early or pre-register online. Registration, which is required, will be located along the beach at Ocean Drive and Fifth Street in Miami Beach, and the planned courses for each event begin on Fifth and take participants along Ocean, as well as across the MacArthur Causeway and back. And no race is complete with out a prize. Awards will be handed out at the end of each event. For a schedule, registration forms, fees, and course maps, check out www.familyfitnessweekend.com.
