Multiculti Sound Machine

Savor Sephardic sounds at the Guava Rugelach Festival

Sweet and tropical flavors meet beloved Jewish tradition. That’s the inspiration for the Guava Rugelach Festival, the brand-spankin’-new music fest that plans to trumpet tropical Jewish grooves to the rooftops. You label-happy genre freaks must be wondering, What exactly does tropical Jewish music sound like?

Try Myriam Eli and Joe Zeytoonian of Harmonic Motion, a dancing musical duo that presents Sephardic arts mixed with rhythmic Cuban-influenced, multi-instrumental flair. Or there’s singer Susana Behar, who croons in the Judeo-Spanish language known as Ladino; Argentina-born Yiddish singer Alejandra Czarny; and the ever-popular Latin-flavor Klezmer Company Orchestra. In other words, it sounds like multicultural fun for anyone with wide-open ears. Head to the historic Temple Israel today from noon to 3:00.
Sun., Sept. 2, 12-3 p.m.
