You Can Always Get What You Want

If it’s music and good times at the Upper Eastside Garden

The Upper Eastside Garden is known and loved for being a laid-back outdoor oasis where you can while away an afternoon with a piña colada and a game of putt-putt. But the garden has made a subtle transformation. The verdant playground is also a hell of a place for a party, and thanks to cool events and film screenings, this garden’s a-rockin’ and everyone’s welcome to come a-knockin’. Rock n’ Roll Summer kicked off August 16 and continues tonight with a screening of Gimme Shelter, the rock doc that captured the Rolling Stones’ infamous 1969 free concert at San Francisco’s Altamont Speedway. This rare opportunity to see the Stones splashed on the big screen will remind us all of how young and fine Mick and Keith were once upon a time. The garden opens at 6:00 p.m., and tickets cost seven bucks, which includes picnic mats or seats in the garden, popcorn, and a drink.

The rocking won’t stop tonight -- on Saturday, August 25, the garden is hosting FM, a party not to be missed. DJ Hiss, along with Adam, Plot, and Speck, will keep the bodies moving, while beverages by sponsors Peroni, Grand Havana Rum, and XL Energy Drink will bring a pleasant flush to your cheeks. Come for the watermelon ball shots (oh yes); stay for the return of Natalia Benedetti’s awesome minigolf sculpture. Play through at 9:00. Call 305-984-3231, or visit web.mac.com/uppereastsidegarden.
Thu., Aug. 23, 6 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 25
