More About
Because popular local DJ Lance-O looks so cool -- abundant graying facial hair, superlong dreadlocks and all -- its easy to assume he leads a life of leisure. But this month the dude is mad busy. Not only is he about to kick off his record labels Kulcha Shok Muzik Reggae and Surf Tour, but also his brand-new monthly television show, Island Hoppers, is about to air on Sun Sports TV. The first episode takes place in Jamaica, and hes planning later episodes for St. Kitts, Barbados, and Trinidad. The show debuts tomorrow, August 10, at 6:00 p.m. Tonight he celebrates his successes at Purdy Lounge before he hits the road.
There are two general kinds of surfers: Theres the laid-back, island-style surfers; then you have the hardcore punk surfers. Theres no reason we cant all party together, he says. Hell unite surf fans, reggae heads, and live-music lovers with the launch party for Island Hoppers as well as live music by Barbadoss alternative roots reggae hero David Kirton, the ever-professional Fourth Dimension, and freshly signed surf-reggae band Made of Hemp. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Visit www.kulchashok.com to watch clips and check out additional tour dates throughout Florida.
