Savor the Spice

Watch and learn from the pros at Macy’s

Fancy restaurants are closing left and right in this city, and the foodies are fretful. Okay, so maybe this is a tough town with few locations for a top-rated chef to hang his poofy white hat. But Miami’s gourmands are indubitably hungry, and few months reveal that more than August. ’Tis the season for Miami Spice Restaurant Month, and the city’s finest establishments are offering amazing cuisine at prices more Miamians can afford. To give the fundraising food event a sprinkle of interactivity, some of Miami Spice’s star chefs will be offering cooking demonstrations.

Stop by Macy’s at the Aventura Mall today at 1:00 for a live lesson with Michael Jacobs, executive chef of Grass. He’ll be whipping up an incredibly delicious appetizer: savory goat cheese crumbles with hydroponic arugula and soy-balsamic drizzle. “It’s a fun dish to make, and it really promotes the quality of our restaurant. For this year’s Miami Spice, we’re offering light, summery items,” he says. Don’t expect Chef Jacobs to transform Macy’s into Hell’s Kitchen, either. “I’m really jovial and very approachable. I really enjoy cooking and making people happy with food,” he reassures us. Whew. Visit the official Website -- www.ilovemiamispice.com -- to browse menus from more than 80 participating restaurants, including Grass, China Grill, Acqua, La Cofradia, and Sushisamba.
