Fun of the Miami Variety

Who you callin’ loco?

It’s Friday night and you’re feeling like a total schizoid. You want to hear some music, but you also feel like laughing. And you definitely want a drink, but you’re not in the mood to club-hop. You could just stay home and channel-surf while you pound back those three-year-old beers in the fridge. Or you could hit up downtown staple Tobacco Road for a new type of fun called Calle Loco.

Just like the more familiar calle, Ocho, Calle Loco is unadulterated fun at every turn. “We always thought that music and comedy go hand in hand, so we mixed the best of improv, the best of sketch comedy, and the best of stand-up with the best of music,” says Buddha Gonzalez, a.k.a. the Son of Funk and one of the event’s founders. If you’re a fan of América Te Ve’s La Cosa Nostra, you already know Buddha and you’ve met Ana Gomez, the host of Calle Loco. And if you’re a devotee of the classic Tom Green Show, hot music, and variety shows, Tobacco Road is your one-stop shop tonight. Doors open at 10:00 p.m., and admission is as free as it gets. Visit www.myspace.com/calleloco for information and to register as a performer.
Fri., Aug. 3, 10 p.m.
