Bad Dog Productions brings boxing glory home

The Magic City has a long and storied history of boxing, but some of the old-school luster has faded with time. Enthusiasts are starving for a resurgence of the glory days, when men like Bobby Dykes were the biggest draw in town, and Ferdie “The Fight Doctor” Pacheco stood ringside with a bucket of ice at the ready. Longtime local promoter Richard Dobal and his Bad Dog Productions hope to bring back the blood, sweat, and nostalgia with Ring of Fire, a series of bouts scheduled at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel.

“A lot of people in Miami don’t know about this yet. But we’re keeping it in the community. We’ve got eight local fighters against eight out-of-towners,” says hard-working assistant promoter Sebastian Rompotis. To kick off the series, Miami’s beloved former undisputed world light heavyweight champ and 2004 Fighter of the Year Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson will take on “Fabulous” Fred Moore in the main event. Damian “Devo” Frias, Alex Brenes, Fort Lauderdale’s Colin Fern, and Hialeah heavyweight Henry Fuentes will round out the card. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; gloves touch at 8:00.
Fri., July 27, 7 p.m.
