The Strummer Who Changed the World

The Wolfsonian pays homage to Les Paul

You don’t have to be a guitar buff to know Les Paul is a genius. Not only is he a revered guitar legend, but also he has made significant contributions to music technology. Paul played a key role in the invention of the solid-body electric guitar and created multitrack recording and various sound effect techniques. All things considered, Paul’s influence on and dedication to rock and roll cannot be underestimated. After all, you don’t get a Gibson guitar named after you for nothing.

Even after a near-fatal car accident, Paul had doctors permanently reconstruct his shattered arm at a specific angle perfectly suited for playing guitar. He is 92 years young and still strumming. Head to the Wolfsonian-FIU tonight at 7:00 for a free screening of the 90-minute Les Paul documentary, Chasing Sound! Producer Jim Arntz and director John Paulson will lead a discussion following the movie.
Fri., July 13, 7 p.m.
