Youre at a table by yourself in a semidark, semismoky club. An artist takes the stage. A poet. He begins his set, performing piece after piece, each one more powerful than the last. Youre mesmerized, along with the rest of the room. But as you look around the club, you begin to wonder if the others truly feel the same way you do. Do they get aroused when they hear words and phrases rhyming and colliding in the air? Is the muttering of the word poetry enough to make them shake with excitement? Well if youre at Poetry North: A Collaboration of the Arts, theres a good chance the entire audience shares your lyrical obsession.
Tonight Magic City verse-lovers are dropping in on North One 10 to celebrate the kickoff of Poetry North, a poetic happy hour. From 5:30 to 7:00 you can nosh on free bites from the menu, slurp down five-dollar cocktails made with Tommy Bahama rum and Skyy vodka, and vibe out to some groovy poetry. RSVP to PoetryNorth@gmail.com. Howard Camner, State of Florida Poet Laureate nominee, will read tonight.
