Caribbean Scene

DeBilzan at the Garden promises to be as surreal as an opening scene from CSI Miami, complete with music, full-body hand-painted models, a performance by Cirque du Soleil’s Sasha, top bar magician Frank Everhart, and uniformed flight attendants from Exotic Flights serving mojitos with dry ice cubes. We’re sure Horatio Cane (as played by the perpetually gravelly David Caruso) would pause to ask, what the heck is William DebBilzan, a“California expressionist” doing in Miami? Well, the artist’s work has appeared in several TV shows, including CSI scenes shot inside his local riverside studio.

Highly admired in the art world, DeBilzan now calls Miami home. “My heart is in the tropics,” he says. His new series of colorful, playful, and primitive Caribbean-inspired work has been on display since May 14 at Miami Beach Botanical Gardens, and the exhibition culminates with this sumptuous reception tonight.
