Stretch It Out

Pilates is fun for everyone

Being duped into buying cheesy Buns of Steel workout tapes is forgivable. You just wanted to get in shape! We won’t even blame you for letting them become dusty ornaments. But now that your buns have turned into the doughy kind, we will point the finger at you if you skip out on Pilates Day today at Shake-a-Leg Miami. That’s because this event, organized by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), offers classes by renowned Pilates teachers from around the country for both beginner exercisers and athletic types.

In case you didn’t know, Pilates is a form of exercise drawing on breathing techniques, special equipment, and systematic movements to connect the body and mind. Starting at 9:00 a.m., guests can begin to experience the benefits of Pilates, which include improved balance, flexibility, and core strength. “The exercises in Pilates help your body to react more organically, more naturally, and have more ease in movement. It’s for everybody, and anybody can do it,” says Kevin Bowen, CEO of PMA. In addition to classes, there will also be sailing activities, kayaking, an ecological tour, and vendor booths.
Sat., May 5, 9 a.m.
