Maibaumfest, or Spring Festival, is the traditional German celebration to end winter and celebrate the warm and green season. This is the first time that the German American Social Club of Greater Miami will host the free event for the public. The celebration takes place today and tomorrow, starting at 10:00 a.m.
“We want people to know German food, German music — how we celebrate. We want everyone to come, like Oktoberfest,” says Maria Willumsen, president of the organization. Traditional German dishes and beverages will be on sale, including different types of sausages and schnitzel. For beer, try the traditional event drink, maibock, or sip a variety of wines, including some made from apples. Besides folk dancing, two live bands from Germany — 4 Wärds and Die Seitz Bum — will entertain audiences. The men can watch (or participate) in the amateur soccer game on Sunday, while the ladies shop at the arts and crafts village.
