Ever heard of a book club? Well apparently there is an extracurricular activity that you can be proud to tell your mother about at the next family gathering (because that last swingers club story was not appropriate at Easter dinner). So this is a group of people that get together in the name of intense book discussions and, probably, yummy, smart snacks. And according to Books & Books owner Mitchell Kaplan, they’re quite the rage: “Book clubs are very very popular down here in South Florida. One of the questions we get a lot is, ‘I want to be in one, how do I get in one?’” An answer to that question can be found at Books & Books’s First Annual Book Club Mixer, an event where book club wannabes and book club “be”s can become one well-read and happy group. Starting at 4:00 p.m. today there’ll be book talk, refreshments, and intellectual stimulation, all in the courtyard of Books & Books.
