The Butterfly commemorates lost legends
Published on April 05, 2007
Tonight at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium, soul legends will be resurrected. Local artists will embody the spirits of music greats like Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, and Billie Holiday in Butterfly’s Tribute to Missed Voices. The show’s creator and producer, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns, says, “I’m out of the box. I really don’t like to do what everyone is doing, especially in the arts.” So she came up with a dynamic program that literally breathes new life into the music, combining soul-stirring songs with dance and poetry.
“It’s one of those experiences that you can’t really put into words, you just have to see for yourself,” Butterfly says. Come early for the complimentary buffet from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Theater doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:00. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com, or at the auditorium.
