King Britt's fifteen-year-plus musical career is an astonishingly diverse one. The Philly producer's career began with a partnership with Josh Wink, cranking out hits for Strictly Rhythm and Wink's Ovum imprint. It peaked as a neo-soul pioneer who DJed for Digable Planets and issued a well-received 1997 debut, When the Funk Hits the Fan, under the pseudonym Sylk 130. He made a hip-hop album, Adventures in Lo-Fi, collaborating with Bahamadia and Madlib (as Quasimoto). King Britt has produced deep house tracks under the pseudonym Scuba and, more recently, Detroit-style techno as the Nova Dream Sequence. All of King Britt's evolutions, no matter how left-field, are marked by strong, soulful rhythms and impeccable taste.
Britt then DJs at Ultra Music Festival on Saturday, March 24, at Bicentennial Park, 1075 Biscayne Blvd, Miami. For tickets and information visit www.ultramusicfestival.com.
