Give Heidi a break and let her DJ set at the Get Physical party speak for itself. Don't judge her for being from Richie Hawtin's hometown of Windsor, Canada, or for being the latest girl to give the German techno scene the gift of a hot track (though Vejer is the only female-released cut on the hot Get Physical label — even though she's labelmates with a very male, but quite androgynously named, duo called M.A.N.D.Y.). Though she grew up just across the river from techno's innovative epicenter of Detroit, it was a year's stint in London that really kickstarted Heidi on her current path. After permanently establishing residency in London in 2000, Heidi worked at the now-defunct Kooba Records and later helped start the quirkily lit but sonically solid Phonica Records shop in London's Soho area. Being a nerd behind the counter (which we mean in the best possible way) has obviously helped her become a hot selector. Her Miami appearance is the premiere stop on her first-ever American tour.
