We're Already There

Celebrate sweet, dark, delicious chocolate

During festival season, Miami hosts celebrations for all kinds of delicious edibles. From Andalusian cuisine to white zinfandel wine, they all get a moment in the sun. So it's kind of surprising that our city has never before hosted a fete for everyone's favorite plant-derived sweet treat. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is absolutely genius for offering the first annual International Chocolate Festival. Being the preeminent botanic garden in the region, Fairchild's event focuses on Theobroma cacao, the beautiful plant whose slender, gooey pods have given the world centuries of culinary rapture.

There will be cooking demonstrations, harvesting presentations, a screening of delicious Johnny Depp's Chocolat, and delectable scavenger hunts for the kids. Everything from Mexican mole to chocolate crêpes will be available on the vast lawn, and the green-thumbed can purchase cacao trees, as well as chocolate-scented Sharry Baby orchids and mint plants.
Sat., March 3, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
