Each year, while the Northeast and Midwest are cold-chillin’, the Winter Party Festival swoops down on Miami with a massive heat wave fueled by hot parties and hot bodies. Native Miamians take 80-degree days for granted, but for the more than 10,000 people flooding in from around the world, this six-day celebration is just what their pasty skin and frostbitten fingers need. As the biggest event for Miami’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, the festival has activities ranging from comedy to dance to sports, workshops, art, and more.

The party kicks off tonight with the Winter Welcome Reception, presented by Showtime Networks. The Doubletree Surfcomber will host the Departure Lounge, a reception, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. In addition to an advance screening of upcoming Showtime series The Tudors, the opening night of the festival will be perfect to get acquainted with your fellow party people, poolside with an open bar and lounge music by DJ Pride. This event is free but the Fire Island pool party on Saturday, March 3, the dozen or so dance parties, and the infamous Beach Party on Sunday, March 4, are not.
